Brief Answer:
Cervical spondylosis to consider.
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to "Ask a Doctor " service.
I have read your query and here is my advice.
Since there are tight muscles on your neck, cervical spine spondylosis ( degerative changes ) should be considered and evaluated further.
You are in the right track since you will see your Doctor and you will ask for x-rays, these are necessary steps in achieving a correct diagnosis.
In my opinion, you should ask for dynamic x-rays and MRI of your cervical spine as well in order to complete the necessary examinations for an accurate diagnosis.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
