Question: Hi doctor. I’m not sure if everything is interlinked but here is what is wrong with me.
my periods are always really heavy (the blood clots and have to use a tampon and pad at the same time) sorry if that makes you cringe. I am always in agony with them but not just a little pain it’s literally crippling. most of the time I get quite bad period pain between periods. Sometimes I feel a stabbing pain in the left side of my back. Then sometimes I have this horrible ache that’s been happening more frequently. But mainly feel it around my shoulder blades. Almost feels as if it takes my breath away because I can’t handle it. Just the only thing was it felt like something was pushing against my bladder. I have been for an ultrasound, I am clear from there. I was wondering if you knew what could be wrong.

Such pain is unusual in such young girls and it should be evaluated. Considering symptoms, it may be suggestive of endometriosis which may not be seen on ultrasound. An ultrasound of the abdomen and pelvis would detect only ovarian cysts or myoma but not endometriosis.
Second, it may be related to hormonal imbalance so you should check estrogen and progesterone. Periods may be regulated with hormonal pills, but if pain persists, then I'd suggest doing an MRI scan of the pelvis or diagnostic laparoscopy after discussing with your Gynecologist.

It is very different of course and has nothing to do with each other. Cancer is not at all a possibility.
Endometriosis is a sort of inflammation around uterus and ovaries, sometimes even in other parts of the abdomen. It is benign but may cause heavy and painful periods and may have periods of improvement and worsening.
It can sometimes be controlled with hormonal medication but sometimes small surgery with an endoscopy/camera is required. In any case, you should not be worried. If it worsens, do get yourself thoroughly checked up by the Gynecologist and the tests that I have recommended earlier.
