Hi Doctor, My 6 Year Old Kid Was Having Fever
Question: Hi doctor,
My 6 year old kid was having fever, sore throat, headache and chills for 2.5 days. It started with throat pain and followed by immediate rising fever (reached 102)with chills and headache. Vomited once on the first day. The fever touched 103 once but I was giving Ibuglesic plus 5 ml every 8 hrs which helped the fever to subside and relieve all the pains. But after 6-7 hrs fever used to come back with all the other symptoms.this was there 2 days .. on the third day fever was reduced to 99.4 but he still has slight headache and throat pain. Please advise on whether we need to consult doctor

This suggests acute pharyngitis. Most of these cases are usually viral and need only symptomatic treatment with antipyretics/analgesics for 3-5 days. Only few cases are caused by bacteria and needs antibiotic treatment.
Here, since his fever is coming down with supportive measures alone, probably this is viral and we need not worry much. Some anorexia, headache and throat pain might be there for few more days, and will be cleared in a couple of days. Giving Paracetamol 3 times daily for 2 days will help relieving the pain and discomfort. Also, do warm saline gargles 3 times daily. Let him drink plenty of fluids and have a soft diet.
If no improvement by next 48 hours or fever returns, kindly get him examined with your pediatrician. Otherwise we need not worry.
