Question: Hi doctor can you please suggest some best OTC medicine which can be helpful at the time of severe headache and migraine and which is effective and safe to have always with us. Both me and my wife experience severe headache random and have migraines. . we generally used to take either Disprin or sarridon . thanks

Hi,
Chronic headaches and migraine are treated with different pain drugs. All the pain drugs have varied response to various individuals. And hence it is difficult to suggest a single effective medicines. I commonly use combination of naproxen sodium and domperidone (available as Tab Naxdom 500mg) medicines to treat headaches in adults. But if the headache is very severe, opioid drugs are more effective and so are injectable NSAID drug.
If disprin or saridon isn't helping much, I suggest you try Naxdom. It is important to start the drug in the early stage when pain is mild to moderate. It may not help for severe headache (in which case injectable or opioid drugs will be necessary.
If feasible, I will recommend consulting Neurologist. Neurologist can determine the type of headache. If the headaches are purely from Migraines tryptan drugs like sumatriptan available as tablets and nasal spray are equally effective.
