Nothing to worry.

Hi Uma,

I understand your concern
But here we need not worry at all. Meningitis caused by amoeba is an extremely rare disease. It usually follows swimming/bathing in fresh water pounds/lakes, and not with trivial/minor water contacts as mentioned here. Even in swimming/bathing, the chance is very less. Just like we can not avoid car travel fearing risk of accident, we need not fear about brain eating ameba and restrict them from playing out. Stay relaxed. All that is needed in such a situation is to wash the area well with soap and water.

Hope I have answered your query
If you need further clarification, I will be happy to help

Brief Answer:
Less likely

Detailed Answer:
Hi Uma,

There are different varieties of amoeba. Brain eating amoeba(Naegleria) is the most dangerous one, but very rare also. This is seen in fresh water sources only(ponds/lakes/swimming pools). They can not survive for longer in soil.

Other amoebas like Acanthamoeba is seen in soil also, but rarely affects normal healthy individuals. They infect persons with low immunity(like AIIDS or inherited immunodeficiency diseases)

The probability of an infectious disease depends on a complex interplay between host(we, humans), environment(our surroundings) and the pathogen(disease causing organism). Even if pathogen is present in our environment, only rarely they can cause disease in a normal healthy host. A healthy diet, regular exercise, recommended vaccines and good personal hygiene- all these measures boosts our immune system and keep infections away.

I hope this answer will help
If you need further clarification, I will be happy to help; otherwise you can close the discussion and kindly rate the answer.
