Hi...
Welcome to 'Ask a Doctor' service.
I am Dr. Ajeet XXXXXXX
I have gone through your query and here is my opinion.
Atypical cells in urine are a non-specific finding.
Atypical cells don't necessarily mean he has a recurrence of cancer.
It is neither diagnostic of cancer nor it rules it out.
Urine may show these cells as a result of infection, inflammation, precancerous state or even in normal aging.
I don't think that "Occasional atypical cells" in his urine cytology examination is clinically significant but needs a regular follow up with the clinician.
Hope that I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

Brief Answer:
Atypia in urinalysis
Detailed Answer:
Welcome back.
This is as a part of protocol for follow up of the carcinoma.
They want to examine the urinary tract and rule out any relapse.
Please go for it.
Cystoscopy (mainly flexible ureteroscopy) is emerging as a highly effective procedure to watch the urological malignancies.
Happy living.
Regards.

Brief Answer:
Atypia in urinalysis
Detailed Answer:
Ultrasound scan is a non invasive procedure.
It needs to be substantiated by direct examination under vision.
This is done to document and rule out any recurrence.
Warm regards.
