Question: Hi, i am a 33 yr male and suffer from fatigue and lightheadedness. Recently i did a comprehensive blood test. My hb value is at 138 which seems to be on the low end. However, my Ferritin is at 85 which seems to rule out iron deficiency. My transferrin at 2.3 seems on the low end as well. What other markers are of interest here and what could i do to increase my hb? Thanks!

Brief Answer:
Nutritional anemia may be the causes.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the query.
The haemoglobin is slightly on the lower side.
Most probably it is due to nutritional deficiency which is arising from low intake of iron rich foods.
As of now you can include more iron rich foods like green leafy vegetables to your diet. Over the counter available iron multivitamins can also be take for four weeks.
You can repeat the test after four weeks to check whether the change persists or not.
You can also go for a peripheral smear to rule out other causes for anemia.
Thanks

Brief Answer:
I have seen that part as well.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
The transferrin is well within the normal range and ferritin is on the borderline. Only Hb is in the lower side( not way below).
You can repeat the complete blood count(CBC) to check whether the change persists or not.
As I said earlier you can go for a peripheral smear as well for confirmation.
As of now increase the intake of iron rich foods and iron supplements which will help you to increase Hb levels.
Hope I have answered your query.
Thanks
