Question: Hi, i got my CBC results back and I am worried about a couple results. My MPV is high at 12.8, my neutrophil is high at 68% and my lymphocytes are low at 23%. Everything else on the panel was normal. Thanks

Brief Answer:
The full CBC report is needed as there are a few other indexes to consider to better determine the importance of these findings

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to "Ask a Doctor" service,

I carefully read your query and understand your concern with the altered results.

It is important when evaluating a CBC to have a full blood report. This is because neutrophils and lymphocytes are also evaluated in absolute values (cells per microliter of blood) other than the percentage. So, to better evaluate the neutrophil and lymphocyte count it is necessary for you to upload the blood report.

By the information already provided, the neutrophile and lymphocyte count do not seem worrisome. Different labs have different normal reference ranges but neutrophiles up to 70% are normal and lymphocytes close to 20% may be considered normal (knowing the absolute count of each of them will help us definitely say this).

As for the MPV, it is increased in your case but very mildly. Normally, it should not be more than 12.3.
The uploaded result would be very helpful in this case as well as there are other indexes of platelets that are checked in the CBC that help us have a more full picture.

To conclude:
- the changes in the neutrophiles and lymphocytes are very likely not worrisome but the test report is needed, if possible you can upload it. This is because there are several other indexes that need to be considered when evaluating these.
- MPV is mildly increased. Even in this case, the full CBC is needed to better evaluate it.
- Also, knowing the reason why the test was done is important as lab reports should always be interpreted in the clinical setting. For instance, did you have certain complaints or did you have the test as a routine examination?
- Sometimes, it may be recommended to repeat the CBC with microscopy. This means that the blood may need to be checked in the microscope by a trained lab worker, to confirm the findings, instead of the blood being processed only in the CBC machine.

I hope this gives you some answers. I remain at your disposal for further medical assistance.
