Question: Hi, my 5 year old daughter has been complaining of pain around navel area. First day 31st December she was a bit warm to touch, lethargic and vomited once. Complained of cramping pain around belly button. We started her on colicaid, econorm and enterogermina. Took her off dairy completely. She does not have any junk food. From next day, she is active, playful, stool and urine absolutely normal, no vomiting. No lethargy. But still says she has constant gnawing/cramping pain around belly button. But she is active, playful otherwise. Appetite is a little less than normal. It's 4 days now and though she is active and playful and everything is normal (stool, urine etc) we are worried as according to her, she has constant dull gnawing pain around belly button. Till today she has never lied or made up or exaggerated, so we have no reason not to believe her. Kindly advise

Brief Answer:
Tummy tonsils, appendix stone, worms

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query about your daughter of 5.
Noted the history and understood the concerns.
The most probable reasons for typical symptoms that you have mentioned in a 5 year old child are one of the following:
- Tummy tonsils are enlarged mesenteric lymph nodes.
- Appendix stone (Fecolith) causing mild obstruction of appendix with referred pain around belly button.
- Worms, although rare now a day.
The best way to get the diagnosis is:
Clinical examination by a General or Pediatric Surgeon if available.
High resolution ultrasound is very helpful in almost all patients.
Tests of stool, urine and blood.
- All these would give a proper diagnosis which is so much important for a specific treatment.

I hope this answer helps.
