Hi, My Daughter Recently Had A Bad Experience Donating Blood

Posted on Wed, 26 Nov 2014
Question: Hi, my daughter recently had a bad experience donating blood one week ago that landed her at the hospital for an ultra sound to rule out blood clot, which at the time it was negative.
Since then her arm has continued to bruise heavily with one of of the bruises containing a red line in the center. Should this be a concern?
Thanks

Hi... Does anyone have an answer for my inquiry?

Thanks

Brief Answer:
No. Do not worry. It will go away.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX. Has she donated blood for the first time? I saw the photo it is a bruise and you should not worry about it. It will dissappear in a few days to a week or so. If there is pain you can give anti inflammatory medicines. You can also apply Heparin ointment over the bruise and give her a crepe bandage.
Do not worry. It is fairly common to have such bruises after IV access. If it does not go away then please do let us know. We would ve happy to help you with any other queries that you might have. Take care.
