Question: Hi, my girlfriend has been experiencing mpd symptoms since the beginning of 2016, although it has gotten worse this year, although hasn't experienced it in a couple of months. When this happens, she also gets a headache and can't remember anything she has said. She isn't going to the doctor, and I was concerned in case this was anything serious. If this was a tumour, would the symptoms have gotten worse by now? thank you so much.

Brief Answer:
Probably the symptoms would have gotten worse in case of a brain tumor.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,
Welcome to Ask A Doctor service.
I have reviewed your query and this is my advice.

Multiple personality disorder is often characterized by a headache and amnesia.

This diagnosis can be easily distinguished in case of a tumor through clinical and laboratory examinations.
I would suggest a CT scan or an MRI scan done to confirm the presence of a tumor.
However, probably the symptoms would be more complex in case of a brain tumor.

The treatment of this diagnosis is complex.
It needs medication and psychotherapy for improvement.
Medical help is necessary.
I would strongly recommend the visit to a psychiatrist for further treatment.

Meanwhile, for a headache, she can use painkillers such as Acetaminophen.

Hope I have answered your question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hi again, I appreciate your help. I only know that it happened once in 2016 after scrolling though our conversation so I'm not sure if it's a fluke or not considering I couldn't find anything else between then and Dec 2017. It mainly started happening at December 2017 and onwards although hasn't happened in two months. She also only seems to get it when she's feeling more anxious or stressed, If the symptoms actually started at the end of 2017, would you think the symptoms would still be worse by now? Thanks :)

Brief Answer:
Probably the symptoms would have gotten worse, you should do a CT for confirmation.

Detailed Answer:
Hi again dear,

The symptoms are probably related to multiple personality disorder (MPD).

This is mostly confirmed by the fact that the symptoms are triggered by stress and anxiety.

The symptoms would have gotten worse in case of a brain tumor.

Anyway,I strongly recommend an examination such as a CT or MRI for confirmation.

Wishing you and your girlfriend a good health.

Take care dear,

Dr.Dorina Gurabardhi
