Question: Hi my mom has been taking 5mg am and pm of eloquis for three months. She only gets a rash on her face after her pm dose (approx 2 hours later). She takes prednisone for pulmanary fibrosis in the am (10mg) and does not get a rash after that dose. Could it be the eloquis. She is suppose to only take the eloquis til XXXXXXX 10. Can reducing her dosage be harmful?

Brief Answer:
She may need to continue apixaban despite the rash.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor's service.
I read your query and here is my advice.
I think the rash is probably caused by apixaban intake. You don't have to lower it's dosage nor to discontinue it because you may increase the risk of thrombotic events.
You can talk to her doctor about another alternative but I think it is not necessary to stop it or lower the dosage.
If she can cope with the rash she can continue it as prescribed by doctor. If the rash bothers her too much you can change it to another type of anticoagulant.

Hope I have answered the question.
