Detailed Answer:
Dear
Thanks for contacting with your health concern and after reviewing your health query I’m of the following opinion:
1. At her age osteoporotic fractures are common, so one has to take into account her bone quality and also the patient’s level of XXXXXXX (range of movement) before treating or managing with Ayurveda.
2. Is there any associated medical condition for which she was taking medicine earlier??
3. Because it will take a minimum of 12 weeks to heal and considering her age (70), it can take more time so one needs specialised care since side by side motor, sensory function assessment and quality of life assessment has to be done.
4. In Ayurveda we usually describe the condition as “ kanda(काण्ड भग्न) bhagna, and it seems to be Ashwakarna Bhagna ( अश्वकर्ण भग्न).
5. Both allopathy and Ayurveda has different modalities for the same, it is upto the person to prefer,i.e. some favour surgical while others non surgical or rehabilitation, so in best interest please make sure to get in touch with a good Ortho clinic or a Shalya Doctor who after giving careful consideration can decide how to proceed further.
6. With modern treatment methods, most fractures heal without any problems, but some still don’t heal with best surgical or non- surgical treatment (i.e. the bone fails to heal), resulting due to risk factors like (at her age): avascular necrosis, any metabolic disorder, infection of the bone, age and general health.
7. In Ayurveda we usually adopt the treatment principle of:
- Shodhana (purification) i.e. external treatment for wound healing and purification to improve blood circulation.
- Shamana ( alleviation) treatment to maintain balance between osteoclast and osteoblast activity.
- Tarpana ( Rejuvenation) treatment: for bone remodelling and complete fracture healing.
PS: with above treatment one need to have regular use of Kusha (कुशा/splints), alepa (आलेप/plaster) and बंधन ( bandaging) for stabilising the fracture.
Please revert back with your clarifications.
