Hi, My Mother Was Diagnosed With Hodgkins Lymphoma And Had

Question: Hi, my mother was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma and had her first chemotherapy of AVD regimen July 24th. Tolerated it very well and labs 6 days later had her WBC down from 7 to 4 which oncologist said was ok. After her a few days her B symptom fever came back but not as aggressive until last night when she sliked 104.5 fever that we briefly got down. She is in ER now and WBC are at 0.9. She has UTI and early stage sepsis and they say she has responded well so far and likely admitted to ICU. My question is when do they give the colony stimulating factors? Would they give it during this acute infection or wait until infection clears and WBC increase normally and not do the colony stimulating factors during active infection? And they have been doing a little Levophed to increase her BP but have titrated down already. Can they give through PORT or they need a central line and cant use PORT?

Brief Answer:
Colony stimulating factors are required now
Detailed Answer:
Hi
I understand your concerns.
Colony stimulating factors are to be given in neutropenia and acute infection because boosting neutrophils is required to fight infection. They help reducing complications and hospital stay.
Levophed can be given through port in my experience but protocols vary between institutions.
Hope this helps
