Question: Hi. my son has been experiencing the following for about a year. Chest pain usually starting on the right side and radiating, shortness of breadth, stomach pain, dizziness from vestibular migraine, and fatigue. He has also lost 10 lbs in the last 2 months. he ways only 120lbs. Also blood in the stool. He has had all the scopes for his colon and digestive track. Heart tests, X-rays, MRI, testing for parasites and other diseases. Tested his blood for deficiencies, thyroid, and white blood count etc. He has been in the emergency room and in the hospital twice with no answers. The only thing they said was maybe it was autoimmune. He is going to a ruemotologist soon. He has not traveled outside the country. He has been tested for Lime disease and other tick born illnesses. He has had his lungs reviewed. Not sure what else we can do?

Brief Answer:
A few tests need to be done

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for using the Ask a Doctor service.

I have gone carefully through your query. The chest pain could actually be due to heartburn. Our gastrointestinal tract has a forward propulsive movement (peristalsis) that moves the food material forward as it is digested, absorbed and finally expelled as feces. If somehow this movement gets hampered, food along with the digestive juices would stagnate, stomach acid will reflux into the food pipe and on the other hand the bowel habits would not be proper. This in turn could be associated with other complications like celiac disease or ulcerative colitis.

I would insist you to get the following tests done:
* Stool for faecal calprotectin
* Colonoscopy, with biopsy if required.
* Blood for Liver function test, immunoglobulin A-tissue transglutaminase (IgA-tTG)

Ensure a good intake of soluble fibers in diet. Foods containing high levels of soluble fiber include dried beans, oats, oat XXXXXXX rice XXXXXXX barley, citrus fruits, apples, strawberries, peas, and potatoes. Foods high in insoluble fiber include wheat XXXXXXX whole grains, cereals, seeds, and the skins of many fruits and vegetables.

Feel free to write back.

We have done all this along with every test we can do. There is some underlying issue we are not finding. Think harder?
