Question: Hi, my son is 2.5 year old. Since November 2019 he is suffering from cough so doctor suggested to give levolin 6hrs once 4 puff and budocot 2 times a day. But it was not reduced so again doctor suggested seroflo 125 instead of budocot. He will be ok when medicine is given.. And doctor said that suddenly we cannot stop seroflo so give 1 times in a day for 2 weeks and later 2 days once.
Now he got adjusted to this dose.
But in between every month atleast once he will suffer from severe cold and cough. This cough is totally different which wont stop even if we give levloin so now doctor said us to give deploment, Daslin-CD and novamax CV.
He will be ok during this medication again after few days same earlier cough starts.
Please suggest how to stop this cough permanently. Do we need to give this levolin and seroflo many years.

Brief Answer:
Possibly due to a viral infection

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for using the Ask a Doctor service.

I have gone carefully through the details and understand your concern. Most often such symptoms are due to viral infections which usually have an allergic component associated. Irrespective of treatment and irrespective of whether antibiotics like Daslin CD and Novamox CV are given, it usually spontaneously resolves in 5-7 days. Treatment is supportive and usually comprises of antiallergic medication and mucolytic. This is independent of the immunity kicking in and simply helps in relieving the symptoms. Whether you need to wait therefore depends on the severity of the symptoms. Irrespective of these medicines it is own immunity that helps in the resolution of the infection. Levolin, Budecort or Seroflo will only have a role is there is wheezing and noisy breathing associated, not otherwise. Unless indicated, the question of giving it for many years is simply out of question.

There is no way to stop cough permanently. However, in case of cough, giving steam inhalation will help in relieving it. It may still last for 5-7 days nevertheless.

If your child is otherwise active and playful, I would not be concerned. If not, it would be a good idea to visit your doctor and to get the child evaluated.

I hope that I could clear your doubts.

Feel free to write back.

Our doctor has diagnosed in November as Allergic bronchitis so levolin and seroflo was suggested.
Till when we need to continue this?
And yesterday we visited doctor as he had severe cold and cough again so now doctor analysed it has ALRTI.
So what is your opinion on this.
And also please suggest what kind fruits, vegetables and food can be given to him.

Brief Answer:
Medicines are for symptomatic relief

All kinds of fruits and vegetables can be given. No restrictions.

The medicines need to be given symptomatically and so needs to be continued for the next few days till the symptoms resolve.

Brief Answer:
Nebulization needed

Detailed Answer:
I understand that he is allergic to the above. In such a scenario those need to be avoided. Nebulization needs to be given if wheezing is present.
