Hi, Our 3 Yr Old Started Vomiting After Complaining Of.
Question: Hi, our 3 yr old started vomiting after complaining of. A stomach ache. She hasn’t eaten for 5 hours. She vomited a dark brown fluid, three times, that was Semi-translucent but not mucous. She continued to vomit within a few minutes after any fluids, including water, charcoal, peppermint tea, and pedielyte. Seems anytime she puts something in her mouth it comes out, after some coughing and stomach contractions. She points to just inferior to her solar plexus when I ate where it hurts.
The dark brown excretions, progressively changed to a clear gelatinous fluid, that she claims did not burn. She immediately becomes animated and talkative afterwards and even claims she feels better. But she can’t hold anything down! If I give her even one drink of water, 8-10 minuets later fit all vomited. I’m worried about dehydration. She has no diarrhea. Maybe a slight fever.

I have read your query and here is my advise.
* As per my clinical experience, the initial vomit of dark brown fluid with later on
changes to clear gelatinous fluid indicate passage of consumed food stuffs in the
vomiting giving particular color.
My guidelines at present
- She requires immediate consumption of anti emetic syrup as ondancetron ( which will
require prescription if not available with you ) with sips of water only.
which will take of controlling the vomiting as well as prevention of dehydration.
- Liquids provided in small amounts can be tolerated after 1 hour of the medicine.
- After about 3-4 hours of the medicine, we can discuss further management plan
according to the progress of her.
Mean while, take care of best hygiene of her hands and mouth and keep check that she
does not put toys like stuffs inside mouth.
Must watch her urine output and skin turgor during this period.
Wish her best recovery.
