Question: Hi, please help me out understand my situation.
I have been on Crisanta for a year now. This month my pills started on 3rd July and ended on 23rd July. But I missed a pill on the 6th July and took it within the next 18 hours.
Now I had unprotected sex on 11th July, so I took an iPill for 2 alternate days, 11th and 13th July.
Now After stopping the crisanta on 23rd July, my periods should have started today. What are the chances that periods are delayed due to pregnancy? Should I be worried?

Brief Answer:
Your cycle is delayed mostly because of the pills.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for letting us know your health concern.

In the current scenario, the most likely cause of the delay in the menstrual cycle is the use of the emergency contraceptive pills.

As you made up for the missed pill soon enough, you have a protected cycle. In addition, you took the emergency pills also. So, chances of conception are almost nil.

The fact is that the emergency pills contain high dose of progesterone and this disrupts the hormone balance, hence the delay.

If you become overdue by ten days, please get further help from your health care provider.

Hope I have clarified your query. Please feel free to contact for further information. I will be happy to help.

Thank you for the response. It’s assuring. But the last iPill I took was on 14 July. Could it still affect me?

I have been having leg pain during nights for 2-3 days. So I should have got my period today.

If I do not get period in next 10 days, do I need a pregnancy test? Or are there is no chance of pregnancy here at all?

Brief Answer:
Chances of pregnancy are almost nil.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for writing back.

Here are the answers to your queries.
1. Though you took the pills two weeks ago, the effect on the hormone milieu is observed at the time of the expected period.

Often, withdrawal bleeding is observed a couple of days after taking the pill. The next natural cycle is delayed by a week or two.

2. If you become overdue by 7-10 days, please see your health care provider for further assistance.

3. Chances of pregnancy are almost nil. Yet, if deemed necessary, pregnancy test may be performed.

Hope this helps. Please let me know if you need anything else.

regards,
Shanti.V.

Thank you for the responses.
My periods started yesterday. But it seems less heavy than usual. Because usually I have very heavy periods.

Should I be worried that the delay means I could still be pregnant?

Brief Answer:
There is no need for worry.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for writing again.

There is no need to worry about pregnancy. The amount of blood flow can be moderate when progesterone is used. Just monitor and contact your doctor if needed.

Hope this helps. Please let me know if I can assist you further.
