Question: Hi sir, I had done PCR, blood test for hsv1 and hsv2,The result is negative.What is the accurate test for hsv1 and hsv2.And oral herpes test is necessary for me?Please suggest.Thank you sir

The Sensitivity of the PCR test for HSV is 90% and specificity is 100%.

Sensitivity means ability of a test to correctly identify those with the disease and specificity is the ability to identify the virus.

Hence, after considering the above facts I can conclude by saying that HSV PCR test may not miss a infection in around 90% testings.

There is no need for further testing.
