Brief Answer:
massive myocardial infarction,arrhythmia,heart failure.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
I have read your query and feel sorry for the sad unpredictable demise of your mother.

* As there is history of diabetes ( though controlled ), there are all chances
of underlying diabetic atherosclerosis of coronary blood vessels, along with
age related changes at 59 years in certain circulatory pathways may have
lead to sudden cardiac arrest without preceding symptoms.

* In many of the clinical conditions, previously totally healthy person present
in emergency with gasping and nothing can be done for survival as the
internal event is sudden, massive and unpredictable for everyone.

* In your case, the most common possibility is silent underlying myocardial
ischemia ( low blood supply to heart muscles ), manifested as acute
myocardial infarction leading to gross arrhythmia ( conduction
disturbances of heart chambers and valves ) and deadly heart failure.

However, the post mortem examination is a must for final evaluation of underlying cause of death.

Would like to discuss further as per your need.
Thank you.
