Hi There, I Am Having Instructive Thoughts Because I Am
Question: Hi there,
I am having instructive thoughts because I am major OCD
the other night something touched my leg, in the moment I thought it was maybe my track pants brushing up against my leg. Now my heads trying to tell me that maybe I actually felt a pinching sensation I just thought it was a brushing sensation.
So thinking that I felt a pinch but thought it was a brushing.
I know this sounds stupid but these thoughts are crowding my head. I was wondering if you could tell me if our minds always associate the pain we feel with what it actually is. For example, if I was pinched would I know in my mind that I had just felt a pinch because I know from the past what a pinch actually feels like.
Would my mind switch up in the exact moment from feeling a pinch instead of a brush sensation or is this just my anxiety doing this.
Right after I felt the sensation on my leg, I tried to recreate the same feeling and in that moment I tried to recreate the brushing sensation, so does that mean that my mind likely knew it was a brushing sensation and not a pinching one?
Basically I’m asking you if I felt one feeling (brushing) is it possible that I felt (pinching) and just thought it was (brushing) or if I was pinched would I have for sure known that I was pinched.

Brief Answer:
Sometimes we perceive things differently
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to Ask A Doctor service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Whatever you thought in the moment (brushing) is the right perception. After that you thought its pinching. This is just framed by your mind. So it was actually brushing and not pinching.
Hope this helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.

This question is all about a fear of bat bite.
If a bat were to bite me would I feel pain? I’m scared what if I felt a pinch but didn’t know in that moment that it was a pinch? I felt no pain but what if I felt a pinch that was not painful?
When we feel a pinch is it usually known that we have just felt a pinch? Are pinches usually painful? If awake and conscious would I have felt pain if a bat were to bite me?

Thank you.
Do our minds generally know the difference between feeling a pinch or feeling a different sensation?
I’m basically asking if something were to have pinched me would it register in my mind right away that I was just pinched?

Brief Answer:
It depends on alertness level
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Felling a pinch and a different sensation as different, it depends on alertness of mind. An alert person will feel the difference. A sleepy or delusional person may not feel the difference.
A pinch will register in your mind right away.

Thank you. So if I was alert and hyper focused at the time of anything that could possibly touch me, I would have felt the difference between a pinch and a different sensation.
Brief Answer:
An alert person will feel the pinch correctly
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Yes an alert person (who is not sleepy or over-thinking) will possibly know the difference between pinch and brushing.
