Hi There. I Have A Small Bone Line Bump On
![default](/r/images/default.png)
Question: Hi there. I have a small bone line bump on the left side back of my head in the location on an occipital lymph node. I have had swollen lymph nodes before but this one is hard and not very XXXXXXX I got it checked my a local gp and he was not concerned of anything. I’ve been researching online. Do chondrosarcoma cause exterior bumps on the skull like this or is it generally only within the skull base. This bump I feel is placed under the skin on my head on top of my skull bone.

Brief Answer:
Not much like chondrosarcoma but bone spur.
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor service.
I read your query and here is my advice.
I don't think this bump is much related to chondrosarcoma.
It is not typical for your age.
It can either be a fibrotic lymph node that may have remained after an infection or a bone spur. The bone spurs often happen near articulacions and in places of frequent friction.
You can do a x-ray of the neck and base of skull to check if it is bone origin or fibrotic.
Hope I have answered the question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

thank you for your reply.
I am very very worried about cancerous tumour. this small bump is about 1cm in diameter and pretty round shaped. it is hard and immobile which makes me worry about tumour. it is located right under my scalp and on top of my skull bone. i have no additional symptoms. what types of skull base tumors form outside of the skull? Should i be scared about malignacy? my doctor felt it and said no tumour but im scared because skull base tumours are rare maybe he missed something? the texture feels like an extra bone but is not on the oppisite side. very very worried!!! please help

Brief Answer:
No risk of malignancy.
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear and thank you for asking again.
I think you should not worry about malignancy and the existence of this mass doesn't signify it can be tumors.
Skull tumors are extremely rare and chondrosarcoma too. They don't happen at this age and they also are accompanied by headache, palpebrae swelling, etc.
If you are so worried you can do an x-ray of the skull or better an MRI.
You don't have to worry about malignancy.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

thank you for your reassurance. do you believe that it is no type of cancerous skull tumour? i have also looked up pictures of them and have not been one that forms on fhe outer skull bone. also, if it was a chondrosarcoma it would likely be a mivh larger mass and inside my skull correct?

Brief Answer:
Not much like cancer.
Detailed Answer:
I don't think it can be a cancerous tumor.
It is not a commonplace where tumors can be formed. It is less than 1cm as you say and this seems like a fibrotic lymph node.
You don't need to worry about cancer.

Brief Answer:
Not much like a tumor.
Detailed Answer:
I think the headache maybe is a result of cold that you are currently having.
If you had a tumour you may have had more frequent headaches.
The tumor may reach different measures but the measurements you are recently having of less than 1cm can be more characteristic of lymph nodes.
Since you're so worried, you may do an X-ray of the head or better an MRI and a total blood count.

I have my blood done about 3 weeks ago and all was normal. Does that mean I shouldn’t be worried? My headache did go away fast after taking an Advil.

Brief Answer:
A doctor should examine it.
Detailed Answer:
It doesn't seem much like tumour of skull and there is no reason to panic at all.
Swollen lymph nodes may seem hard in back of head but a specialist may examine it by touching it to see if it can be suspicious.
A doctor should examine it.
