Hi There, I Took The Depo Shot On Feb 29th

Question: Hi there, I took the depo shot on Feb 29th 2020 which was a week after my period. it says it takes 7 days to work so on Mar 7th I took plan b because I wasn't sure if the shot had started working. Mid April I started spotting and had cramps here and there. I didn't think anything of it because its normal with the shot. Today May 1st I had some cramps, a few hours later I went to the washroom and there was a chunk that looked like skin, I usually get chunks of blood during my period but this was bigger and looked lighter in colour. I just want to know what that could be. could it be a miscarriage?

Hi,
Welcome to Ask a doctor. I am Dr Ramadevi Wani. I will be answering your concerns today.
Inj DMPA is a very effective contraception. In addition you have taken Plan B. So it is extremely unlikely to be miscarriage. It is just the lining of uterus that is shed as happens in a menstrual cycle. The colour can vary because of the hormone injection.
If you have further concerns, I will be happy to answer.
Best wishes.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back. It is normal. You may have it for another 2-3 days.
If it is bothering you so much, since you have not taken the depo shot in the first five days of your cycle, just get a urine pregnancy test done. That will put at ease. I am confident that it will be negative.
Best wishes.
