Hi There, I Ve Had A Slightly Inverted Nipple On

I've had a slightly inverted nipple on my right breast for as long as I can remember. I'm 35, female, headed to my second mammogram/breast ultrasound this afternoon to have additional images done due to "scattered fibroglandular densities" and I have dense breasts. The very first breast mammogram and ultrasound that I've ever had was last week, so this is a follow up appointment that they requested. Should I be concerned that the imaging is requested on the breast with the inverted nipple? How concerned should I be? I've lost sleep, can't eat, can't focus, etc....is this routine? Help!
if there for a long period of time, cancer unlikely
Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic
It is understandable to be concerned re any call back but if there for a long time and not a recent or fast change, cancer is not likely
Nipple inversion can be benign (not related to a dangerous or problematic cause) .
It can be congenital or acquired
In terms of congenital, women may be born with this condition or it may occur gradually over time. This is not dangerous and it is NOT associated with an increased risk of cancer
In some women, it can be an acquired issue. This means that it may be related to a new or recent problem. Even in most of these it is not due to cancer (though has to be ruled out).
Acquired causes include inflammation or infection of the breast and cancer.
The fact that you had these changes over a long period of time make cancer unlikely but your doctors are making sure that this is the case by rechecking with ultrasound.
Ultrasound is better for dense breasts
I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
