Question: Hi there,

I was wondering if taking 20 mg of Amitriptyline will interfere with levothyroxine absorbtion?

These meds are taken at 8pm for Amitriptyline and 6am for levothyroxine.

I have no thyroid.

Since starting Amitriptyline, my tsh has dropped from . 1 to . 376. I need to be around . 1 for optimal health.

I've read on healthline that levothyroxine absorbtion was inhibited by amitriptyline.

I'm normally very in tune to my levels and it should never have dropped like this. I can't figure out anything else.

Brief Answer:
Amytriptiline can interfere with levothyroxine absorption.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Amytriptiline can interfere the absorption of Levothyroxine.
I recommend changing the timing of the medications.
The absorption of levothyroxine occurs within 3 hours of ingestion.
So, you can try to take Amytriptiline in the evening. It will also help with your sleep.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Kind regards!
