Hi There. I’m Experiencing Pain In Several Places. I Don’t

Question: Hi there. I’m experiencing pain in several places. I don’t dare go to the hospital or to the doctors right now with everything happened with the COVID-19 madness. I went in to the ER back in the end of October with chest pains and an elevated heart rate. They did all the tests on my heart and lungs and it all came back clear. They said it was just anxiety/panic disorder but gave me nothing to help with the pain. It’s back now and there’s pain in other places too. I’m convinced it’s either costochondritis or Fibromyalgia. But I’m trying to stay calm. I have pain in the left side of my chest and my left upper arm. It also hits me in my ribs right under the left breast. Plus my neck on the left side in the front hurts as well. Sometimes I wake up to pain in my hip or feet as well. I’m only 23 years ago, not sure if it’s just anxiety causing this but I’m in pain every day. Going crazy :(

Brief Answer:
Pain can be easily treated.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for posting your query.

I am Dr Sudhir Kumar, Neurologist, and I would try my best to help you.

I have noted your clinical details. Based on this, pain can be due to the following causes:

1. Pinched nerve in the neck- This can lead to pain in neck, chest and arm

2. Costochondritis- as suggested by you. It can cause pain over ribs and chest.

3. Fibromyalgia is unlikely at this stage, as we need to exclude other causes of pain by doing appropriate tests such as MRI of spine, before diagnosing fibromyalgia.

As of now, you would benefit from medications such as pregabalin, which would help in pinched nerve as well as fibromyalgia (if you have that). Ibuprofen or diclofenac tablets may be taken for costochondritis.

I hope my answer helps. Please get back if you have any follow up queries or if you require any additional information.

Wishing you good health,
