Hi There. Yesterday I Lifted A Bucket Of Water Over

Question: Hi there. Yesterday I lifted a bucket of water over an obstacle but in a bad position. (I've recently moved and am trying to get everything in its place. This is XXXXXXX where buckets of water are necessary!) My back really didn't like that and I have, I believe, a trapped nerve. Sciatica? It's obviously very painful and has now localized at the left hip with occasional pain in my feet, both of them. It is very difficult to walk, impossible without pain. I am taking ibuprofen for the pain and trying to find an ok position to sit or lie down. I have had sciatica before but perhaps because it's been a long time since then, it feels as if the pain is very much more intense. I also am experiencing a burning sensation on the left hand side and if I bend my head or incline my upper body, like to brush my teeth, there's a lot of pain.

Health care services where I am are not good. I'm in a remote location. I would have to fly to the capital to get help. Is there anything you can recommend so I would not have to fly in? Are there exercises I can do? Should I be lying down or moving about? Thanks for your help

Brief Answer:
Take antinflamatory drugs such advil or naproxen, do physical therapy

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor service.
I read your query and here is my advice.

I think you should have rest for the first 48 hours and find a painless position
You may need to take ibuprofen or naproxen for pain relief. Also remember to put warm compresses in the back.
After 48 hours you can try to do physical therapy. You can do stretching like laying in your back and keeping legs upward and bending knees.
Also you can do stretching sitting in a chair and elevating your heel from the floor without bending the knee.
Also you can do another exercise laying on your back and elevating the bottom from floor.
Hope I have answered the question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
