Question: Hi, today I was called by my doctor who wants me to redo my bloodworm for my annual physical, because my WBC/RBC and HEMOGLOBIN were low. can you tell me what this could be an indicator of?

Brief Answer:
could be due to several reasons, further evaluation required...

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service...
I've gone through your query in details...
I can understand your concern...

Please note, in general, as per your age group, the WBC count could be anywhere between 3.5-10.5 billion cells/L, while the RBC could be 3.90-5.03 trillion cells/L and the Hemoglobin 12.0-15.5 grams/dL.

So, as I see, your WBC count is reported within normal limits only, while the Hemoglobin and RBC counts are borderline decreased.

This mainly indicates anemia (a deficiency of red blood cells in the body). This could be due to nutritional, iron deficiency, secondary to some chronic metabolic cause or even due to blood loss.

As I see your already under iron supplementation, so probably your doctor wants to recheck the levels (perhaps there's no significant improvement as expected, or even due to machinery or even blood sampling errors)...

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take Care
Kind Regards

Dr,

Thank you very much. As I age, I'm petrified of some sort of onset of disease or other issue. I will do my part and continue with the supplements and healthy eating habits. Thank you again.
