Hi,In Year 2013 My Father Suffered Mild Heart Attack .
Question: Hi,In year 2013 My father suffered mild heart attack. After performing Angiography,Doctor suggested that he should stay on medications n der is no need for stent etc
The latest EF is 56% .. He is on following medicines:
Morning:Pan D, Nitrofix20,Benipeck 4.5,Carca 12.5
Noon:Livogen
Evening: Nitrofix20
Post Dinner: Deplatt A, Benipeck 4.5, Carca12.5, Orvas 20.
He is taking Pan D since 2013 on daily basis. He has tried to stop this over last 10days but he suffered from acidity n started again this medicine frm yesterday.
My questions are:
1) Can Pan D be taken for so long and should we continue with this medicine?
2) Can we take Pan40 instead of Pan D and can Pan D be stopped suddenly or is there any protocol to be followed for this

Brief Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX
Detailed Answer:
Welcome to HCM.
Thank you for your query.
I understand your concern.
Well continuing pan d for prolonged period is not advisable unless recommended by doctor for some specific reasons.
Worthwhile trying to taper it slowly and see how he feels.
1) Try switching to pantocid d (20+ 10) 1-0-1 (before breakfast and before dinner) for 15 days then
2) take pantocid d 20 in morning only (1-0-0) and famocid 20 in evening 0-0-1 for 15 days
3) then continue pantocid d 20 only and stop famocid.
In addition to this try following things
1. eat on time
2 exercise regularly
3 develop some hobbies
4 go for regular walk
5 sleep adequately for 8 hrs
6 avoid stress
7 avoid coffee, aerated drinks, tobacco, smoking, alcohol if any.
8 avoid sleeping or lying down 2 hours after meals
9 take small frequent meals
10 do some yoga and mind relaxation techniques
all this will help you in long run.
Also worthwhile getting an endoscopy vitamin B12 and D levels once to ascertain the cause of acidity and effect of long term antacids after consulting your doctor.
hope this answers your query.
happy to help
wish him a speedy recovery.

Hi,
Thank you for your query.
Yes reduce to pantocid d 1-0-0 and famocid 20 mg 0-0-1 x 15 days.
We are not stopping pan d suddenly as it may cause rebound symptoms hence reducing the dose no other side effects as such due to reduction of dose. Alternate days is of no use.
Best wishes.
