History: Male 44 Years Old 6’5” 300 Lbs, Lisinopril 30mg
Question: History: Male 44 years old 6’5” 300 lbs, Lisinopril 30mg for BP, Cpap machine at 10cm for sleep apnea, currently on Nyquil for cough. Daughter had pneumonia 10 days ago, unknown cause.
Condition: Upper respiratory cough that is productive. I had this condition for 3 days. Airways are unusually tight tonight. I am able to breath normally with large volume when awake. When I try to sleep, airway is blocked and I am not able to breath and I wake up just as if I were not using my cpap machine. The blockage seems to be in larynx instead of pharynx (what I would experience normally) but it is hard to say. Cpap machine is not strong enough to push thru.
Question: I happen to have a proair respiclick (albuterol sulfate) that was prescribed to me about 8 months ago because I was sick. I never used it. I do not have asthma. I am considering using it to open my airways. I am not sure if it will make my sleep apnea condition worse or if it will help.
Thanks,
Phil

Brief Answer:
I suggest you try it
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Thank you for your question. Based on your thorough history, I suspect you have an upper respiratory tract infection, possibly viral. If you have a fever or the sputum is greenish and foul smelling, I suggest you see your doctor for antibiotics. If not, it would be perfectly safe to try the albuterol, as it can help dilate your airways.
However, if your condition worsens in any way, contact your doctor or go to the ER.
Hope this helps. Best wishes.

Thank you for the advice it worked. I saw a doctor about my condition. He said my lungs sounded well. I'm on medication for the cough. Benzonatate 100 mg. I used albuterol sulfate to help sleep at night.
I have a new symptom that is concerning. I have a crackling noise coming from my lungs. I am generally feeling better. Should I be concerned about the crackling noise?

Brief Answer:
No need to worry
Detailed Answer:
Hi again XXXXXXX
Glad to hear it helped. The crackling noise is to be expected and not a cause of concern. If your breathing gets better and you feel better altogether, the crackling should slowly disappear.
Let me know if you have further questions. Best wishes.
