Posted on Thu, 2 Feb 2017
Question: Hi, I am XXXX, Age 32. I am 13+ weeks pregnant. In my NT Scan that I took last week, my betaHCG was came out to be 122.00 ng/mL. This led to a high risk calculation for Trisomy 21 Screening to 1:172. In my Ultrasound for the same test, the background risk was 1:528 and Adjusted Risk was 1:2335. According to the radiologist, everything looked fine in Ultrasound. However, after consulting a genetics specialist, we have gone for NIPT. I am really worried about the outcome. What are the chances of report coming negative for Trisomy 21. Please help

Hi

Detailed Answer:
HI..
Thanks for writing..
I understand your concern..

NIPT gives 96 percent accurate result. The false positive result with first trimester screening is high.. So don't worry.. There is a good chance for NIPT to be negative..

Also NIPT is not confirmatory result.. If it's positive confirmatory test like amniocentesis might be required..

Hope I have answered your query. Feel free to ask any doubts. Good day.
