How Accurate Is The Urine Pregnancy Test?
Question: Hello Dr, We are recently married in the first week of February this year 2015. My wife, 25 years old, used to have her menstrual cycle regularly on 27th of every month until last year October. After that, instead of 27th Nov, she got her menses on Dec 10th last year. From that cycle onward, it has been occurring irregularly for her. Then the subsequent cycle ended on XXXXXXX 30th 2015, that too she had to take deviry as per doctor's advice for 4-5 days prior to that menses. So, going by that, she expected this cycle to end on Feb27-March 1st 2015. But till now, menses haven't occurred. Pregnancy test was negative when tested 1.5 weeks ago and she has taken deviry for the past 4 days as per doctor's advice. My question is how accurate the pregnancy urine test is? Also, taking deviry while conceived will affect the fetus in any chance?
Brief Answer:
usually true positive
Detailed Answer:
Hello sir thanks for trusting health care magic.
Urine pregnancy test test is quite accurate and usually true positive.
False test rates are less than 0.3% so don't be hassled and as she already has had irregular periods so most probably it is true negative.
As she has taken deviry she will get her periods in a while after leaving them.
In case (though very less chance) she is pregnant and has taken deviry there is risk of causing increased androgen levels in baby which are usually of no harm in case there is a male baby.
So don't be anxious and just wait for her periods.
