How And What Medicine For My 11year Old Child Who Suffers With Adhd?
Over the counter medications are unlikely to help.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
There are medications like Methylphenidate that can be given to a child with ADHD but this is a schedule X drug and therefore is not available without a prescription. Furthermore, one needs to carefully evaluate the child before such a drug can be prescribed. The child will also need undergo psychometric evaluation for ADHD, IQ, anxiety etc. to determine the exact cause of why the child is not able to learn properly and based on that, suitable intervention plans need to be made. The child may need behavioural therapy and applied behaviour analysis (ABA) based special education which can only be delivered after functionally evaluating your child and coming up with an individualised education plan (IEP). Just giving medications might not suffice.
