How Are You Dr? My Wife Today Was Cooking Chicken
Question: How are you Dr? My wife today was cooking chicken nuggets in the oven and my 1 year old was standing in front of the oven looking in with the appliance LED bulb on. This was for about 4-5 minutes. Could that bright light exposure to his eyes cause any permanent damage to his eyes. My kid can’t talk so he can’t tell us how his vision is. I’m very worried. It’s a pretty bright light and my kid was staring into the oven directly at it being curious. Should we be worried????
It’s unknown if he was looking directly at the light for that time but if your looking straight into the oven the light is located in the back of oven shining towards the oven door as the picture I uploaded shows.

Detailed Answer:

I read on google that bright LED lights and exposure staring at them can cause retinal and macula damage. And since there are no pain receptors in the back of the eye the baby wouldn’t know that he could be hurting the himself. Give me a more detailed answer then the 5 words that you wrote. Be more specific please
Did you look at the Photos I uploaded?
Brief Answer:
Yes I saw all the photos dear
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for the follow up . Do not worry . the receptors may not be of pain but they are photosensitive and if any light is more than what the eye can handle eyelids will shut as a reflex . If you still have any doubts sir you can take him for a comprehensive examination including retina check up which will assure you even more . But I do not think that any damage is caused . Hope my answer helps you . Regards
