How Bad Is A Borderline Left Atrium Dilation, Or Mild

default
Posted on Sat, 6 Oct 2018
Question: How bad is a borderline left atrium dilation, or mild left atrial enlargement? This was shown on a electrocardiogram. What can be done so this doesn't get worse. Also can this be reversed, by doing anything that could reverse it? And I don't have high blood pressure. Cholesterol is a little bit elevated but nothing to bad. But I am about 60 pounds overweight.

Brief Answer:
Nothing to be worried

Detailed Answer:
Hello Ma’am

After going through the medical details provided by you I can understand your concern for your health and well-being and I would like to tell you tell you that having an electrocardiographic finding of dilated LA is very non specific which needs to be supported or backed up by more specific and reliable echocardiogram.

As echo is a direct visualisation of cardiac chambers and valves so the results are more reliable and accurate. So if your echo is normal that means your LA is also normal and there is nothing be worried about.

However considering your age along with significant overweight is a matter of concern and require attention and adequate action in the form of healthy lifestyle modifications by following strict diet and exercise plans.
