How Best Can One Take Care Of Diastolic Heart Failure?
Question: How best to care for diastolic Heart Failure (diagnosed recently using Echo Cardiogram, which I am familiar having been an echo tech in the 1970s) . . . . I've exercised daily for the past 40 years, drink minimally (1 beer daily) and am 73 years old. Should I continue to exercise vigorously, modestly, or as little as possible?
Brief Answer:
Moderate intensity exercise
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Firstly, diastolic dysfunction occurs frequently due to older age, hypertension, obesity etc. and not worrisome. We don't need to treat it directly, but we have treat for the cause if any. So not to worry about it.
Next, considering your age, you should restrict yourself to mild to moderate exercises only like brisk walking or jogging at usual pace. You should avoid high intensity exercises in general as those may be detrimental to your health at this age group.
Hope this clears your doubt and get back if you have any doubts.
