How Botox Works For These Conditions?
Question: Hi, doctor. Just one quick question re: botox since I am going for injections next week. My neurologist tells me botox can be beneficial for both AO and TN2. My question is about how botox works for these conditions. My understanding is that it is used to tighten muscles (cosmetic reasons, etc) Just would like to ask its beneficial property in treatment my neurological issues. Thank u so much as always.

It does not tighten, instead, it causes paralysis of the muscles, but by affecting nerve function.
Botulinum toxin produces paralysis by blocking the presynaptic release of the neurotransmitter (acetylcholine) at the neuromuscular junction, with reversible chemical denervation of the muscle fiber, thereby inducing partial paralysis and atrophy.
In your case, it works by stopping the pain impulses received by nerve endings.
