How Can Contrave Be Split Or Broken Down And Had To Enable Medication Absorption After Gastric Bypass Surgery?
Question: I had gastric bypass 5 years ago. I’m just starting Contrave. I usually split all my pills since my ability to absorb medication is compromised. I realize it’s says not to cut Contrave but can I due to the gastric bypass surgery?
Brief Answer:
Contrave can be dissolved in water than splitting
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Splitting pills is not recommended.
What I suggest is, take same amount of water in ml as that of the mg of the contrave pill. You may have to buy a dosing equipment used for babies. Dissolve the pill for hours in the water (use distilled water) and keep sipping the water without losing any of its therapeutic effect and yet not having a trouble absorbing it due to gastric bypass.
I advise my patients similarly and they are happy to practise this way.
