How Can I Get Rid Of Recurrent Folliculitis On Scalp

Posted on Tue, 28 Jul 2020
Question: How can I get rid of recurrent folliculitis on scalp and in the beard? I've been experiencing it since a few years and I've taken regular medication including tablets and shampoo. It's extremely painful and leaves marks on my scalp. Just a piece of information: A year back I had a hair transplant. Please suggest if I should get any tests done to find out the root cause to eliminate it permanently.

I've taken Azithromycin, Doxycycline tablets and have applied fusidic acid cream, and used exizol shampoo to wash hair.

I am in a hot and humid area and I sweat a lot. The painful bumps have pus in them.

Brief Answer:
Go for laboratory tests and start isotretinoin

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to ask a doctor service
I have gone through your query and understand your concern.
I would recommend you to get your complete blood count, liver function tests and lipid profile done.
Recurrent folliculitis is a chronic and resistant condition of the skin.
If your blood tests come normal you can start with capsule isotretinoin 20 mg once daily at bedtime for 8 weeks.
It will work in resolving your problem but these are prescription drugs and should be taken under the supervision of the doctor.
Regards
Dr Asmeet

Sure Doctor. Once I get the tests done and upload it here, will my request be picked up by you again? In the meanwhile, what should I follow? My tablets are over and I'm just applying fusidic cream at night and using xgain shampoo daily due to hairfall and exizol shampoo once a week. Should I stop going out for a run that generates a lot more heat in my body as the weather here is hot and humid? Additionally, do you recommend anything that may keep my body cool?

Detailed Answer:
Your query would be sent to me if you get the tests done within 2 days.
Otherwise you can request the customer care team to forward me your reports.
Meanwhile you can continue with fusidic acid cream, x gain shampoo and exizol shampoo.
You can also avoid running for few days till the weather is hot and humid.

Doctor, Earlier I was recommended to use Diprovate lotion and Noskurf lotion on alternate days. Should I use them now? If yes, what should be the frequency? Thank you!
