How Can PSA Levels Be Interpreted To Check For Any Issues?

Question: Hi, My father underwent a health check recencetly. All his reading were normal. Except PSA, this stood at 4.8. Is this an issue to be immidately addressed, or should he go for futher check ups?
Brief Answer:
Symptoms
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Does your father have any symptoms of urine trouble?
Does he have urgency or not able to withhold urine for even few mintues?
Does he have problem with stream of the urine?
Although PSA is high it does not necessarily indicate any problem immediately.
You can get a Ultrasound scan and Voiding cystourethrogram to check if there is urine left over after urine and the stream. This should not be immediately but after meeting the local Urologist.
Hope this answers your question.

I don't think he has any problem with urination.
Isn't PSA related to cancer. That's what google says. Wanted more insight into it.

Brief Answer:
Google can be a bad doctor most of the time
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
For a number of reasons, the PSA can increase. The most common is after the increase in the size of the prostate, with age or after procedures and so on.
4.6 is high but does not say about cancer. Is there a history of prostate cancer in the family? Only biopsy can give information about the existence or non-existence of cancer. Therefore, do not presume and worry about unominous possibilities.
Hope I have answered your query.
Thank you.
