Brief Answer:
Hot compress and milk expression can help.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.

The hardness of the breast is due to congestion due to accumulated milk in the breast. She needs to press and express the milk gradually even if the baby does not take all the milk. She can do a hot compress and take a mild pain killer to decrease the pain and inflammation.

In case the pain and hardness persist then an infectious cause needs to be ruled out after a direct examination and proper oral antibiotics may be needed for treatment.

Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow-up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.

Regards.
