Request clarification please

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for your query.
I'm Dr. Shuba Hariprasad and will be answering your query today.

Would you clarify a few things for me, please?
*what is your height and weight?
*Do you smoke or consume alcohol? If so, how much?
*do you have any other medical issues or take any medications?
*did you injure your leg yesterday - a bump somewhere?
*is there any swelling over the area?
*any other symptoms like fever? Warmth over the affected area?

Phlebitis is inflammation of the vein usually caused by an unsterile procedure while drawing a blood sample or injecting medications.

This is not done on the shim & it is unlikely to be Phlebitis.
Your symptoms sound like the result of an injury.

I recommend :
- a physician consult.
-blood tests (complete blood count, clotting profile)
-Xray of the leg if clinically indicated.
-doppler study of leg vessels based on clinical examination.

In the meantime,
-apply ice pack (wrapped in a thin cloth) over the area several times a day.
-apply local anti-inflammatory gels (like diclofenac/methyl salicylate) 2-3 times a day in gentle circular motion.
-keep weight of you right leg and elevate it comfortably over /at hip level.

If you develop severe pain or numbness or change in colour, visit the ER
*if you send a photo, I would be better equipped to help you.
Please get back to me with the above requested info and a photo.

Hope this helps and you feel better.
Warm regards,
Dr. Shuba Hariprasad

Brief Answer:
Try my earlier suggestions

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for the follow up and clarifications.
Please try my earlier suggestions
If it does not help in 2 days or worsens, see your doctor right away.
If it eases up, then continue the same treatment. It will take a couple of weeks to resolve. The bruise will change colour from reddish blue to purple to green, yellow, light red and then normalize..

Oral anti inflammatory meds will also help. However, it is advisable to be examined clinically before this.

Please draw a line around the bruise to note any changes in size /extension. Check everyday.

Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.
Wish you good health.

Regards,
Dr. Shuba Hariprasad
