How Can A Cyst In The Kidney Be Treated?

default
Posted on Mon, 29 May 2017
Question: Hi, today I was at my family Doctor, gave me the abdomen ultrasound result. All good but my left Kidney which is small in shape had a big cyst of 7.2 cm but my Doctor suggested to watch it for now and in six months will do an ultrasound or a CT scan. But now I am worried I do not know how serious it is and scared if it breaks what might happen. I am diabetic but controlled and I have blood pressure and take coversyl 4 mg a tablet and half everyday.

Please advice me and what might happen and what are the symptoms related to this issue.

Thanks.

Detailed Answer:
Hello! Thank you for using HealthCareMagic.
I read your concern carefully and I can understand.

From the provided information, I can say that you are in the right treatment / follow up by your family doctor. If the cyst doesn't interfere with your kidney function and doesn't give complications then there is no problem.

The reason for repeated of ultrasound or CT-scan is to see if the cyst's getting bigger or stay the same size.

The cyst is a sac filled with liquid that sometimes may cause complications:
-Infection( cyst may become infected )
-Burst ( A kidney cyst cause of the pressure of the fluid may burst)
-Urine obstruction ( The cyst may block the normal pathway of urine, in result kidney damage).

If at all you develop these symptoms:
- Fever
- persistent Back pain, side pain.
- Frequent or difficult urination.
- Blood in urine
- If you have problems with your blood pressure, or if you can not keep it under control despite the medication.

In such cases, you need to go immediately to the hospital to rule out any possible complications.
Meanwhile: Drink plenty of water (liquids), avoid salt intake in your diet, check your blood pressure regularly.

Hope you find the answer helpful.
