How Can A Foreign Object In The Stomach Be Removed Without Surgery?
Question: Hi
My Son has swallow the 2 rupees coin 20 days back. We did x-ray found Coin been lying in his stomach (L3-L4 Abdominal ) without creating any health problems. His Daily routines like Playing, School having food, and toilet, all are normal. We have visited Doc, He suggested to wait for next 10-15 days, if coin does not come out via stool , he need to face surgery endoscopy is not possible.
We don't like go for Surgery. kindly suggest alternate way?

Since, the coin is in stomach, it will pass through intestine and should be out in 2 weeks.
Repeat X ray will tell us about the location of coin in intestine.
Banana and semisolid foods help in passing of coin through intestine.
If there is pain abdomen or child not passing stools then immediate intervention is required.
There is unfortunately no other method. If coin doesn't comes out then surgery endoscopy is the only option.
However, in most cases the coin usually passes through.

Thanks for your reply. We are continue to feed him banana and semisolid foods wait for few more days. Hope Coin passes though intestine and comes out normally.
In worst condition, is it possible to remove coin with help endoscopy. We don't want to go for abdominal surgery (cut, and stitches).

In acute condition like obstruction in intestine, abdominal surgery is done. Don't wait for it to become serious.
Repeat X ray will tell us the location of coin. If there is no improvement then go for endoscopic surgery.
