How Can A Lump On The Forearm Be Treated?

Posted on Thu, 22 Jun 2017
Question: Hello I wrote over the weekend but I want to write one more time as I am extremely freaking out. I noticed this lump on my right forearm on Saturday morning. It is tender to the touch that's how I noticed it. I googled it and of course I see soft tissue sarcoma and it's really making me extremely worried. I'm calling the doctor first thing tomorrow morning though. The lump is an extremely noticeable from the outside but once you feel like you can definitely know it's there. Three months ago I had a complete physical and blood panel. The lump is not extremely hard but it's not soft like you think is filled with water or puss . If feels like similar to her a heart or grape maybe but not super hard. I don't know how else to describe it. I'm attaching photos as well. Please help with any insight as I'm extremely panicking today
It is warm to touch. If that helps.

Brief Answer:
Possibly a ganglion. Not a medical emergency. You need not worry.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through your query and understand your concerns. I have checked the attached images. Although a clinical examination is needed, based on its looks it is probably a ganglion. Such a thing can occur when in the course of normal functioning of muscles there is a partial tear. As a result of such a tear, the muscle fibers retract and fold together forming a swelling.

You need not panic. I do not see the possibility some something life threatening cropping up suddenly like this. A visit to the doctor would yield further clues.

Let me know if I could help further.

Looking at the images- and location you feel not looking like a sort of cancer?
Google os the worst!! The lump is lile a ball- why would it be tender and warm? Online says cyst is moveable- i dont feel mine is movesble ?

Brief Answer:
It points toward inflammatory cause

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back. The fact that it is tender and warm points to an inflammatory cause and in fact reduces your worries about cancer.

I am sorry to state that you can not become a doctor simply based on the information you procure from google. It requires doctors prolonged training and practice in order to obtain the skills needed to discern. It is encouraging that you have tried to gain knowledge but that itself might not be enough.

In case of a overall soft tissue swelling you would not see the mobility that a cyst might have. You would need to know what is applicable where, something that will require elaborate medical training.

A visit to a doctor will clear you of your worries.

Brief Answer:
Needs clinical evaluation

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back. Depending on the description it could also be a lipoma. However, a lipoma is unlikely to arise rapidly. Visiting a doctor will clear you of your worries.

Brief Answer:
Wait and watch

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back. I did not gain any additional insights from the mentioned findings. The above information is still consistent with the possibility of ganglion (due to partial tear of muscle fibres) or lipoma. None of these are serious.

As advised, I too would insist you to keep a watch. Unless it seems to be rapidly growing in size there is no reason to worry. But if an increase in size is noted you would need to seek further evaluation.

Castor oil pack has anti-inflammatory properties. You can give it a try but I doubt if that will help.
