default
Posted on Fri, 13 Jan 2017
Question: Hi,

got a breast sonogram done. it shows a small cyst.
the report says it's hypoechoic.

I googled and it says hypoechoic is always associated with malignancy.

Can you check the sonogram image and let me know if it's benign or not? help.

Brief Answer:
Your uploaded image was clear and it may indicate simple cyst.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for writing to HCM,
I've gone through your query and understand your concern,

Though images are not attached with your query,I am aware of your previous query.
It is not right that hypoechoic lesions are always associated with malignancy.
Your uploaded image was clear and it may indicate simple cyst.Simple cysts are generally benign in nature. There are chances of malignancy in simple cyst if patient is having family history.

Chances of malignancy are increased in complex cyst.Complex cysts are indicated by turbid content ,thick wall, solid component etc.

As you have simple cyst,it is generally benign.
You may go for follow up ultrasound to see its progression.

Get well soon.

Hope I have answered your query.
Further queries are most welcome.

hi,

thank you. I forgot to ask about hypoechoic the last time. hence the repeat question.

is this fluid filled cyst or a solid one?
will it grow in size?

does it increase the risk for cancer? my immediate family has no history of breast cancer(sister, aunts and mother).
