Question : I have acute sinusitis two weeks after removal of a pituitary tumor. What should I do?

It can be managed conservatively.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Sinusitis may be seen after pituitary surgery.

It is because neurosurgeon essentially inserts his surgical instruments through the nose and sphenoid bone, in order to access and remove a pituitary tumour.

You don’t need to worry as it can be managed effectively with conservative measures. You can try the following:

1. Start a short course of antibiotics like Amoxicillin for five to seven days.
2. Nasal decongestant drops like Xylometazoline.
3. Steam inhalation for symptomatic relief.
4. Antihistamines like Levocetirizine.
5. Simple analgesics like paracetamol for pain.

If symptoms persist despite all these, consult an ENT specialist and get evaluated.
