Brief Answer:
The number can be reduced gradually.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
The amount of Cigarettes you are taking is not very high and there is no need to try nicotine tabs for that. Best way in such situation is to reduce the number very gradually. You can make a log book of your cigarette use. Right now you are on 5 cigarettes per day, keep this use fixed for next two weeks and avoid taking more than 5 cigarettes. Once you are on 5 then after a couple of weeks reduce the 4 per day for around 2 more weeks and then reduce to 3 and so on every two weeks. The reduction at every two weeks will give you motivation which will act as reinforcement for quitting.
Gradual reduction in this way will not cause any withdrawals. You can even chew normal sugar free chewing gums to distract yourself from craving.
To reduce the craving for some time drugs like Bupropion can be used. Bupropion in dose of 150-300 mg per day helps to ease anxiety in nicotine withdrawal. You can consult a psychiatrist for that.
Thanks and Take care
