How Can Dried Blood From An Open Wound Be Treated In An Elderly?

Question: My mother is 83yrs. young & has a small spot where 2 days ago she felt a piece of skin, so she picked it, because her skin bleeds easily, she dressed with lg. gauze patch. Now has dried blood so unsure how to clean skin & cover w/ new dressing. Can you advise?

Hi,

I have gone through your complaints and would recommend you to simply clean the wound with XXXXXXX warm water.

Apply topical antibiotic like Neosporin ointment on the affected areas twice daily.

If the wound is small you can keep it open.

Otherwise cover it with a small gauze piece after applying neosporin ointment.
