Question: Hi, can I answer your health question? Please type your question here..

Ive had a dry cough for about 6 weeks. I've had bronchitis before, and this feels different. I don't have any chest pain, no congestion, and a constant itching in the middle of my chest (under my sternum). It's a high pitched cough and whenever I start talking I run out of breath and cough. At night it sounds more like a hacking cough and I almost vomit. No other symptoms other than itching and cough. The cough almost goes away when I sleep and first wake up .I did have a chest xray which was normal and blood work that came back normal but my WBC was on the low end of normal. That was 2 weeks ago. Could this be pertussis even though my titer for it was positive?

Brief Answer:
probably alergic cough

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

I can understand your concern

According to the history i don't think this is pertussis cough don't worry .

Mostly this is an alergic cough due to any alergic agent. If you were my patient i would recommend you to do a Spirometry test. If it is negative than the Metacholine test for detecting better the airways.

And after having the results probably the inhalers with steroids like Budesonide twice per day for one month will be needed.

Please discuss with your doctor for the above

I hope to have been helpful

Regards and feel free to ask me again

I had a spirometry test done about 2 years ago because my allergies were bad in the spring. I scored a 96 on it and the allergist told me I had miks allergic responses to some things and I most likely didn't have asthma due to the score on the spirometry test. I've never had that other test done that you mentioned but I have been thinking it's more of an allergic response. The allergist did tell me I have non allergic rhinitis and postnasal drip

Detailed Answer:
Hi again

The Metacholine test is the special test to didentify asthma even if Spirometry test is in normal ranges.
If the above comes negative than we are sure this is not alergic asthma.

Please discuss with your alergologist. I am sure he will order it for you
